Susanna Barkataki, M.Ed. Ayurvedic Wellness Counselor, E-RYT 500, C-IAYT, member of Thich Nhat Hanh’s Core Community of Interbeing, is known for her passion for decolonizing yoga – practicing yoga not just as poses but as a way of life. She welcomes everyone to yoga through story, questions, and inspires people to their own authentic powerful experiences.

Susanna is mixed, born in England with a family lineage is from Assam, India, where an ancient line of teaching the traditions of Yoga and Ayurveda is practiced still today. Susanna integrates this lineage with the practical application of a Master’s degree in Education as well as a B.A. in Philosophy for U.C. Berkeley to create a culturally aware and socially relevant practice.

She is the founder of Ignite | Yoga and Wellness Institute in Orlando, Fl. Ignite teaches yoga beyond asana. Ignite provides comprehensive Yoga Alliance Certified 200 and 300–hour yoga teacher trainings, a Health Coach Certification, and online Love and Relationships course. Susanna is viral yoga and wellness blogger for Huffington Post, Yoga International and Elephant Journal, an advisory board member of Yoga Service Council, a member of the Yoga and Body Image Coalition Team, and is part of the Core Leadership of Thich Nhat Hanh’s community of mindfulness. She optimistically believes that yoga can create more personal and social connection, unity and fulfillment.

B Grace Bullock, PhD, E-RYT 500 is a psychologist, research scientist, educator, science writer, yoga and mindfulness expert, and author of Mindful Relationships: Seven Skills for Success – Integrating the Science of Mind, Body and Brain (Handspring Publishing, 2016). She is the CEO and Founding Director of the International Science & Education Alliance, an organization devoted to exceptional program planning, design, development, training, research, and capacity building to support equity, diversity and scientific integrity, and promote effective leadership, decision-making and social change. Dr. Bullock partners with public and private organizations to design, develop, deliver, and evaluate evidence-based, yoga and mindfulness programs in schools, community settings, and business. John M. Doyle MD , a practicing medical doctor, found yoga at the tail end of his medical training and has been continuing both “practices” ever since.  He is a board certified pathologist who moved into Occupational and Urgent Care medicine. His love of yoga morphed into the teaching of yoga.    He taught Mysore style Ashtanga  and flow classes at Yogaworks and then Dance department college yoga classes at Loyola Marymount University where he also taught yoga physiology and anatomy in the first Masters in Yoga Studies  graduate school program.

Leslie Kaminoff is a yoga educator inspired by the tradition of T.K.V. Desikachar. Leslie is the founder of The Breathing Project, a New York City based educational non-profit dedicated to advancing educational standards for yoga teachers and other movement professionals. Hala Khouri, M.A., SEP, E-RYT, has been teaching yoga and the movement arts for over 20 years. She earned her B.A. in Psychology from Columbia University and her M.A. in Counseling Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute. She is trained in Somatic Experiencing, a body-based psychotherapy that addresses trauma and its symptoms.

Hala is a co-founder of Off the Mat, Into the World, a training organization that bridges yoga and activism within a social justice framework. She leads trauma informed yoga trainings nationally and her own 200hr Yoga Teacher Training in Los Angeles. She has been in private practice for 10 years working with individuals and couples. Hala also works with A Thousand Joys training direct service providers in vicarious trauma and self-care.  She lives in Venice, CA with her husband and two sons where she also teaches public yoga classes weekly.

James Mallinson is Senior Lecturer in Sanskrit and Classical and Indian Studies at SOAS, University of London.

He took his BA in Sanskrit and Old Iranian at the University of Oxford, followed by an MA in Area Studies (South Asia), with Ethnography as his main subject, at SOAS. His doctoral thesis, submitted to the University of Oxford, was a critical edition and annotated translation of the Khecarīvidyā, an early text of haṭhayoga.

Dr Mallinson has published eight books, all of which are editions and translations of Sanskrit yoga texts, epic tales and poetry. His recent work has used philological study of Sanskrit texts, ethnography and art history to explore the history of yoga and yogis. His next book, written in collaboration with Dr Mark Singleton, is Roots of Yoga, to be published by Penguin Classics in 2016.

From 2015 to 2020 Dr Mallinson will be leading and ERC – funded research project on the history of hatha yoga which will result in ten critical editions and translations of key yoga texts, four monographs and two large conferences to be held at SOAS in 2017 and 2019.

 Jules Mitchell MS, CMT, RYT is a San Francisco based yoga teacher, educator and massage therapist. Neil Pearson is a physiotherapist, and Clinical Assistant Professor at University of British Columbia. He is founding chair of the Canadian Physiotherapy Pain Science Division, the first PT to receive the Canadian Pain Society’s Excellence in Interprofessional Pain Education award, and a previous Director with Pain BC. Neil has worked for the Doctors of British Columbia to develop and deliver Continuing Medical Education on pain management, and is currently collaborating on numerous community-based pain care-movement programs while providing a distance pain science mentorship program.

Neil is a yoga teacher registered with Yoga Alliance and YACEP, and a yoga therapist, certified with International Association of Yoga Therapists. He developed the Pain Care Yoga certificate training program, a series of videos based on the integration of pain science, the lived experience of pain, and yoga, and online patient pain care curricula.
